We don’t know much about Taika Waititi’s upcoming Star Wars film yet, but we just got some positive news about it. Waititi and her co-writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns join forces Patty Jenkins, Rogue Squadron Director to return to the fundamentals of the franchise. How, you ask? Avoiding one of the biggest criticisms of the sequel trilogy. Fans laughed at the sequels, mostly The Last Jedi, for his lack of direction and his inability to adhere to the core tenets of Star Wars lore. This is a pitfall that Wilson-Cairns is already trying to avoid.

Last summer the Thor: director of Raganarok confirmed that it would indeed be moving away into the galaxy far, far away. Many initially questioned the choice based on the comedic and original character of the writer / director / actor. Nonetheless, fans have come to embrace the notion of a Taika Waititi Star Wars movie. Its involvement and its treatment The Mandalorian, at the very least, certainly proved his Star Wars courage. Wilson-Cairns, it seems, shares his commitment to honoring the essence of the franchise.

Wilson-Cairns recently spoke to Variety on the upcoming film and the status of its screenplay. She said the writing of the film is “going pretty well,” adding:

“You have to research, study and spend a lot of time to get it right. It’s really important to honor not only your commitment to her, but also to the legions of fans out there. “

This kind of commitment is a far cry from what fans, and even the Star Wars cast, thought they were getting from. The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. Actor Sam Witwer, for example, said of Johnson that “[y]You can’t reinvent Star Wars without knowing Star Wars first, ”and Johnson just hasn’t done his homework. (Witwer, of course, is the actor who breathed extraordinary new life into Maul’s character.)

That Wilson-Cairns takes the time to research and understand the franchise she is set to be a part of should be very heartwarming to fans concerned about the future of the franchise film. If the Taika Waititi Star Wars movie in any way looks like what he did with it The Mandalorian, good….

We should all be enjoying ourselves.
