Sonic 2 Writer Talks Post-Credits Scene, Sonic 3 Villain

With a Knuckles’ third film and spin-off already lit, the question among fans has naturally become what other elements from the games will be incorporated into future live-action material. After Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) is defeated by Sonic, Knuckles and Tails, the military cleans up the aftermath of battle when Commander GUN Walters (Tom Butler) is informed of a research facility housing a decades-old project . The camera pans to this facility, where the test subject – Shadow the Hedgehog – is contained. The movie ends when Shadow wakes up and opens his eyes red and energized. Introduced in 2001 Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow is considered one of Sonic’s greatest rivals and shares many similar traits. But he was designed to be “the ultimate life form” to protect humanity, and his methods often put him at odds with Sonic and company. It became a fan favorite, and at one point even featured its own game which is a bit of a cult classic and has a killer opening song.

In a recent interview on the Green Hill Zone podcast, the film’s co-writer Pat Casey explained what to expect from Shadow when he shows up to cause trouble for Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in the upcoming movie. When asked, Casey admitted that the main reason he was the movie’s post-credits stinger was mainly because of his popularity, and also because of what he could bring to movies in the future. . Casey described him as “driven by anger and revenge”, like Knuckles, but the main difference is that Shadow isn’t misunderstood like the red echidna was in the sequel. Shadow was created with the primary purpose of protecting the world from harm, but it’s how he does it that will put him at odds with Sonic and his friends.

Casey also teased that Sonic’s efforts to connect with Shadow wouldn’t be as easy as they were with Tails and Knuckles. “Sonic has never dealt with anyone as emotionally damaged as Shadow…when he sees Shadow, he’s like, ‘Well, I’m just going to teach him the power of friendship, like with Knuckles !’ But that won’t work on Shadow. For fans of the franchise, that’s an interesting thing to say, given that Shadow’s desire to protect humanity stems from witnessing the death of his friend.
