Reporter says Tielemans would choose Tottenham transfer over Arsenal

Journalist Sami Mokbel has told The Last Word On Spurs podcast that Youri Tielemans would choose Tottenham over Arsenal if given the chance, with the midfielder privately keen to join a Champions League club next season.

Tielemans continues to be a Leicester City player despite being out on the cards for some time. Reports before the end of the campaign suggested Arsenal and the 25-year-old himself were convinced of a £40million move.

The Gunners remain in the race to sign Tielemans. And reports this week suggest they are close to making a £30m offer. But Mikel Arteta may want to move if he hopes to secure the midfielder’s signature.

Mokbel suggested Spurs had little intention of doing anything for Tielemans at the moment. However, he claimed it might be something to watch as the deadline approaches.

“Certainly Interested”

He also added that Arsenal might be disappointed if Tottenham move due to Tielemans’ desire to play at the highest level.

“I can see Tottenham making a move for Tielemans later in the window. But I don’t think that’s the one they’d be looking to do right now. They definitely have an interest in Tielemans,” he told The Last Word On Spurs.

“All the indications I’ve had so far this window is that it’s a no on Tielemans. But I’m not so sure. I think there’s a deal to be made for Tielemans. But it will be late in the window.

“If there’s a club Tielemans would ideally join, I think he’d choose Tottenham over Arsenal, just because of the whole history of the Champions League. I don’t know if he’s spoken about it publicly. , but I’m privately led to believe that’s what he wants to do. He wants to go to a club where he can play Champions League football. And obviously Tottenham would be able to offer him that.

Tielemans would choose Tottenham over Arsenal

Arsenal certainly need Tielemans much more than Spurs right now. The Gunners’ lack of depth in midfield was revealed at the end of last season. And that really hurt their chances of holding on to fourth place. He is also an “incredible” player.

Tottenham have since gone from strength to strength in the middle of the park. And there have probably been plenty of Arsenal fans unhappy with Spurs signing Yves Bissouma.

Antonio Conte also poaching Tielemans would therefore be extremely difficult for Arsenal fans to bear.

Worryingly for the Gunners, Mokbel apparently doesn’t think that possibility is out of the question.
