According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, Tottenham Hotspur are set to spend the bulk of their remaining transfer budget on a centre-back this summer.

Tottenham have already made four signings so far this summer in the form of Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison.

It looks like the North London club are close to completing a few more additions if reports from the past few days are to be believed.

Antonio Conte’s men are reportedly settling final details with Barcelona on a loan deal for Clement Lenglet (fabrice romano) as some publications hinted they were close to signing Djed Spence from Middlesbrough (Daily mail).

However, Spence’s deal appears to be a little further away than Lenglet’s, with Alasdair Gold saying on his Youtube channel over the weekend that negotiations between Spurs and Boro are still not over.

Crook has now said he expects Tottenham to agree a deal for Spence and has suggested the Lilywhites are also likely to spend big to sign another Serie A centre-back, with Fabio Paratici having met with various agents.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think he’s a centre-back they want because he wants to play as a back three with Djed Spence and Perisic could play as a left-back.

“So I think the bulk of the money will go to a centre-back. We know Fabio Paratici has met various agents in Italy, so I would imagine that would be a Serie A centre-back, maybe the one of the names we’ve heard of before.

I expect the Spence and Lenglet agreements to be completed in the coming days. Although I think Spurs will sign another central defender of Gleison Bremer’s profile, potentially to replace Davison Sanchez, I don’t think they will spend much on the signing.

I suspect Richarlison will comfortably be Tottenham’s most expensive purchase this summer. I wouldn’t be surprised if Paratici decided to keep the powder dry in order to try again for Bastoni or Gvardiol in January or next summer.
