‘Never say never’ – Reporter delivers verdict on ex-Elland Road star’s re-signing to Leeds this month
Leeds United will consider sealing the return of Ronaldo Vieira from Elland Road before the transfer window closes, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
Vieira left Yorkshire for Sampdoria in a £6.2m switch almost three-and-a-half years ago, but it looks like his time with the Serie A club is coming to an end.
What is the latest news about Vieira?
According to Italian outlet Club Doria 46, Leeds are keen to strengthen their midfield by re-signing Vieira.
It comes after the same publication previously suggested Vieira had packed his bags ahead of a return to England.
Vieira would add strength through depth to Los Blancos’ midfield options, particularly with Kalvin Phillips still on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury in the stalemate against Brentford last month.
However, Vieira himself has been injured and has yet to make an appearance since the start of the season due to a muscle problem.
Since arriving in Italy, the 23-year-old has been limited to 44 Sampdoria outings and hasn’t featured in a Serie A game for the club since 2020.
Although he’s been away from Leeds for a while, he’s clearly keeping tabs on the happenings at his former side as he took to Instagram to confirm he’s happy for Adam Forshaw after the midfielder central has made its first league start in over two years.

What did Pete O’Rourke say about Vieira?
O’Rourke believes Leeds will explore the possibility of re-signing Vieira before the end of the January transfer window.
Vieira has entered the final 18 months of his contract with Sampdoria and it looks like he is preparing to head for new pastures.
O’Rourke believes Vieira could be welcomed to Elland Road simply to give Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa an extra option.
The journalist told GIVEMESPORT: “You would never say never. If he’s readily available, doesn’t fit in at Sampdoria, they’re ready to get rid of and he wants to come back to Leeds, I’m sure that’s something Leeds will consider.
“It would just be an extra body in the building.”

How did Vieira fare during his first stint with Leeds?
Considering Vieira was only picked up by Leeds after impressing in a trial at the club’s academy, they would have been delighted to have recouped a multi-million pound fee for his services in 2018.
The three-cap England Under-21 international has made 71 appearances after coming through the Whites ranks.
In the aftermath, from the heart of the Leeds midfield, he scored twice and registered four more assists.
He also played under four different managers – Steve Evans, Garry Monk, Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom – during his time at Elland Road.
Although he could return to Leeds with no Premier League experience, he has been involved in 45 top-flight Italian appearances thanks to his move to Sampdoria and a loan spell with Hellas Verona.
