Journalist Dean Jones has claimed Jesse Lingard would ‘love’ to join a club like Tottenham after leaving Manchester United but doubts the midfielder would play a significant role under Antonio Conte.

Lingard, 29, is a free agent this summer after seeing his contract with the Red Devils come to an end last month.

The Telegraph recently claimed that the England international has suitors at Tottenham, who would consider a free transfer to bolster the options available for Antonio Conte ahead of a busy season.

It has also been claimed that Spurs were drawn to Lingard’s homegrown qualities, with the north London side hovering around the edge after signings Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison.

Jones believes a move to Spurs would be attractive for Lingard given his current situation, but would only be valid if he was given a sufficient number of minutes after spending most of last season rooted to the bench.

He told GiveMeSport: “It’s always a nice luxury to have to bring in a player with that creativity that can add depth to the squad.

“I’ll be honest, with Lingard he would like a club of this level, but only if he can feel a big role in this team and I’m not sure I see Jesse Lingard playing a big role in the team. from Tottenham next season, given what we’ve already seen from them last season and what we’ve seen this summer.

Boosts web opinion

Lingard could be a player Tottenham turn to if they run out of options and struggle to break through with their top targets.

In terms of depth, he could be a useful addition, but there’s no guarantee he’ll earn any regular minutes as the forward line is currently quite stacked.
