‘Inter looked like they did in December in the 2-0 win over Hellas Verona in Serie A’
Italian journalist Andrea Di Caro believes Inter put in a similar performance to their best form of the season when they beat Hellas Verona 2-0 last night.
Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Milan’s Gazzetta dello Sport, Di Caro compared the display to the kinds of performances the team had in December.
Inter’s best form of the season came in November and December when they produced an eight league win streak that saw them climb to the top of the Serie A table and look almost elusive.
A number of setbacks in February and March, starting with a painful derby defeat at the hands of AC Milan, however, cast all that into doubt and suggested the team might find it difficult to play as they expect. had done in December this season.
However, against Verona, the Nerazzurri were in full swing again, and Di Caro writes that “if it hadn’t been a pleasant spring afternoon, it would have felt like December”.
“Inter have turned back time to the end of 2021,” he continued. “Because the match against Verona recalled one of the many beautiful and convincing victories chained in the long winter streak which launched Inzaghi towards the second star.”
“What happened in 2022 is now well known, he continues, the derby lost against Milan which woke up their demons and took the security away from the team, the exit from the Champions League, the athletic decline, the less brilliant game, scoring half as many goals per game as in 2021.”
“Yesterday’s game against Verona was important not only for points, but also for performance,” says Di Caro.
“Confirmation was sought on the compactness of the team shown in Turin and improvements from the point of view of the style of play,” he pleads.
He concludes that “Both have arrived. Inter therefore returns to frighten its opponents, and strikes a blow to Naples and Milan.
