The Red Devils have taken on current interim boss Ralf Rangnick after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked, and he is expected to take on a consultant role this summer.

What is the latest news regarding Man Utd?

Several intriguing names have been linked to the long-term filling of the Old Trafford hotseat, including current Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax’s Erik ten Hag.

According to ESPN, Pochettino was the ‘preferred candidate’ to succeed Solskjaer after he was dismissed in November, but he ended up staying in the French capital.

Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News claim Ten Hag have now joined the Argentine tactician in the job race, with the club scrambling to appoint a new manager before the end of 2021/22.

The same outlet also say that Pochettino would be the preferred option between the two players as several stars are impressed with his previous Premier League exploits.

Both bosses are under contract until the summer of 2023, but the lure of joining England’s 20-time champions could see them cut short their time in their existing roles.

What did Jones say about Man Utd?

Jones revealed how, despite the United hierarchy being aware of Pochettino’s popularity within the first team, Ten Hag caught the attention of several people, making the decision difficult to make.

He told GiveMeSport: “The hierarchy at United know that most of this current squad would pick Pochettino as their next boss, given the choice. However, it’s not that simple.

“Many people involved in the process also place a very high value on Erik ten Hag, and from what I hear he seems very uncertain of the path they decide to take. One thing is certain, Rangnick’s long-term future in the dugout is seriously uncertain.

Who would be the best date?

Pochettino has experience of Premier League management, team building and taking control of big egos from his time at Southampton, Tottenham and PSG.

However, he only won one major trophy, a tally which Ten Hag surpassed at the Johan Cruyff Arena, winning two domestic doubles during his five-year reign.

Both men play an attractive, modern and expansive style of football that matches United’s way of thinking and as a result either could prove a hit at the Theater of Dreams.
