Derry Girls Writer Lisa McGee: Everything We Know About The Series Creator


Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee has seen her Channel 4 creation flourish and become a global phenomenon.

With filming of the third and final season of Derry Girls now complete, fans can take this time to reflect on the journey the first two seasons have taken us.

While some of the actors were already well-known actors and some have developed their careers tremendously since Derry Girls, what do we know about the series creator, Lisa McGee?

Lisa McGee is, of course, from Derry and has brought her real-life experiences to the screen through Derry Girls.

A former student of Derry’s Thornhill College, Lisa took advantage of her experiences in high school and founded the Derry Girls School on Thornhill College.

The eagle-eyed Thornhill girls will have spotted the Latin motto “Adveniat Regnum Tuum” on school buses and character uniforms from Derry Girls, the same school motto of Thornhill College.

From Derry to Belfast, Lisa studied Drama at Queen’s University Belfast.

Lisa’s idea of ​​bringing Northern Irish experiences to the screen didn’t start with Derry Girls.

Some fans will have recognized Lisa’s name and many of the Derry Girls cast of Lisa McGee’s London Irish sitcom in 2013.

London Irish follows the antics of Conor, Bronagh, Packy and Niamh, four expatriates from Belfast in their twenties living in London. With the high rate of emigration from Northern Ireland and Derry itself, London Irish introduced a British audience to comparable Northern Irish experiences.

Lisa’s creations span major UK and Irish TV channels, with The Things I Haven’t Told You released on BBC Three, the Irish TV series Raw which premiered for RTÉ, Indian Summers for Channel 4 and more recently The Deceived. for Channel 5 and Netflix.
